BBL Photofacial in
Marietta & East Cobb
BroadBand Light therapy to clear sun damage, reduce redness, fade brown spots, and restore a luminous, even complexion – with no downtime and visible results after a single session.

What Is BBL Photofacial?
BBL (BroadBand Light) Photofacial is an advanced light-based skin rejuvenation treatment that uses precisely calibrated wavelengths of intense pulsed light to target and correct a wide range of skin concerns – including sun damage, brown spots, redness, rosacea, and uneven skin tone.
Unlike lasers that use a single wavelength, BBL delivers multiple wavelengths of light simultaneously, allowing it to address multiple skin concerns in a single session. Filters are used to select the specific wavelengths most effective for your individual skin concerns.
At DESSNA, BBL Photofacial is performed by our licensed aesthetician team under the oversight of our board-certified dermatologists – ensuring you receive a medically supervised aesthetic treatment with the highest standard of safety and results.
What BBL targets
Brown Spots & Sun Damage
BBL's targeted wavelengths are absorbed by excess melanin in sun spots, age spots, and freckles. The pigment breaks apart and naturally flakes away over 7 – 14 days, leaving clearer, more even skin.
Redness & Vascular Lesions
Specific BBL wavelengths target oxyhemoglobin in dilated blood vessels and rosacea-related redness. The vessel walls collapse and are reabsorbed, reducing flushing and visible capillaries.
Skin Texture & Tone
Beyond targeting specific concerns, BBL stimulates collagen production and promotes cellular renewal – improving overall skin quality, pore appearance, and luminosity with each treatment.
Photorejuvenation
Research shows BBL can actually influence gene expression in skin cells, shifting them toward a more youthful pattern. Regular BBL treatments are associated with measurably younger-looking skin over time.
Why Skin Develops These Concerns
Sun damage, uneven tone, and redness are the visible result of cumulative skin changes. Understanding what drives them helps us select the most effective BBL protocol for your skin.
Cumulative UV Exposure
Years of sun exposure stimulate melanocytes to overproduce melanin in localized areas, creating brown spots and uneven pigmentation. UV damage also weakens collagen and causes visible redness over time.
Vascular Changes
Chronic sun exposure and rosacea cause blood vessels near the skin's surface to dilate and become permanently visible. These telangiectasias and areas of diffuse redness are a primary target for BBL therapy.
Skin Aging & Collagen Loss
As skin ages, collagen production slows and cell turnover decreases. This leads to a duller, less luminous complexion with visible texture changes – all of which BBL addresses by stimulating cellular renewal.
Genetics & Skin Type
Fair-skinned individuals with a history of sun exposure are most prone to the pigmentation and vascular changes that BBL treats. Genetic factors also influence rosacea susceptibility and baseline skin tone.
How We Perform BBL Photofacial at DESSNA
We customize every BBL treatment to your skin – selecting the right wavelengths, settings, and protocol to deliver visible results with minimal downtime.
Skin Analysis & Consultation
Your aesthetician performs a thorough skin analysis to assess your concerns, skin type, and treatment goals. We review your sun exposure history, current skincare routine, and any contraindications. A customized BBL protocol is selected – including the appropriate filters and settings for your specific pigmentation and vascular concerns.
BBL Treatment Session
A cool gel is applied to the treatment area and protective eyewear is provided. The BBL handpiece delivers precise pulses of light across the skin. Most patients describe a mild snapping or warming sensation. A full-face treatment takes approximately 20 – 30 minutes. You may notice brown spots temporarily darkening immediately after – this is expected and a sign the treatment is working.
Aftercare & Maintenance Plan
Immediately after treatment, skin may appear slightly flushed. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. Brown spots will darken over 3 – 7 days before flaking off naturally. We provide detailed aftercare instructions including sun protection protocols and recommend a series of 3 – 5 sessions spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart for optimal results.
BBL Photofacial Options at Our Marietta Practice
Your BBL protocol is customized to your skin concerns, skin type, and goals. Here are the approaches we use to restore a clear, radiant complexion.
BBL HERO Photofacial
The gold standard BBL treatment targeting melanin-based pigmentation. Delivers precise pulses of light that break apart excess pigment in sun spots, age spots, and freckles. Most patients see spots darken and flake off within 7 – 14 days.
BBL Vascular Treatment
Specific BBL wavelengths target oxyhemoglobin in dilated vessels and diffuse redness. Ideal for patients with rosacea, persistent facial flushing, or visible spider veins. Vessels collapse and are naturally reabsorbed over 2 – 4 weeks.
BBL FOREVER YOUNG
A maintenance protocol using lower-fluence BBL to stimulate collagen, improve skin quality, and – based on Stanford research – actually shift gene expression toward a more youthful pattern. Recommended 1 – 2 times per year.
BBL Combination Protocol
For patients with both pigmentation and vascular concerns, we combine multiple BBL filters in a single session to address brown spots, redness, and overall skin quality simultaneously. Maximizes results per visit.
Series Treatment Plan
For more advanced concerns, a series of 3 – 5 BBL sessions spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart delivers cumulative improvement. Each session builds on the last, progressively clearing pigmentation and reducing vascular changes.
BBL + Medical-Grade Skincare
We pair BBL treatments with a customized medical-grade skincare regimen – including antioxidants, retinoids, and broad-spectrum SPF – to protect results, prevent new damage, and maximize the longevity of your outcome.
BBL vs. IPL: What's the Difference?
Not all broadband light devices are equal. Here's what sets DESSNA's BBL apart from standard IPL:
Sapphire contact cooling for comfort and skin protection
Precise wavelength selection for each skin concern
Even light distribution across the treatment area
Stanford-validated anti-aging gene expression benefits
Performed under board-certified dermatologist supervision
Why BBL at a Dermatology Practice Matters
Safety Through Medical Oversight
At DESSNA, BBL is performed by our licensed aesthetician team under the direct oversight of board-certified dermatologists. This means any skin concern identified during your treatment – including suspicious lesions or conditions that require medical attention – is immediately flagged and addressed. You're not just getting a cosmetic treatment; you're getting a medically supervised skin assessment.
Integrated Care for Complex Concerns
Patients with rosacea, melasma, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation require careful treatment selection. Our dermatologists can determine whether BBL is appropriate for your specific pigmentation type – and coordinate with prescription topicals or other medical treatments when needed for the best possible outcome.
If you have sun damage, uneven skin tone, redness, or simply want a brighter, more youthful complexion, a BBL consultation at DESSNA gives you both the aesthetic result and the medical expertise to do it safely.
